Being a professional Pet Sitter, staying in other peoples homes and caring for their pets, gardens, etc., I often have a lot of time to just think.
This morning, as I sat in a heavily treed garden in the foothills of Boulder, Colorado, I began thinking about my life. I am 56 years old, and what have I done with my life? I am not wealthy, I do not live in a large expensive home, I do not drive a fancy car, I have not won an Academy Awards, have not run for public office, have not become a missionary, have not made any great scientific discoveries, nor are there any statues or memorials to commemorate my existence once I am gone from this earth. What will my legacy be? Why have I done nothing to make a mark and a difference in this world?
After some contemplation, I realized that I had made a much larger impact that I had given myself credit for. I gave birth to and raised 3 wonderful children, who in turn have produced 8 beautiful grandchildren, with number 9 on the way! Each of them has or will go on to do the same, and the positive impact that each of them will make on this world is amazing! I am happily married to a great man for 20 years.
My dear husband and I have rescued dogs, cats, ferrets, chinchillas, rabbits, and several people who needed temporary shelter and time to re-start their lives.
We have anonymously given money to our church to help people who needs were greater than our own. Our youngest daughter, my husband and I gave 8 years of volunteer service to help re-home retired racing Greyhounds so that they could find their forever homes and not simply be discarded once their careers of racing were over. We have spread the amazing word of God to those who did not know Him or doubted his existence.
We have endured many hardships and survived each of them, growing wiser and stronger with each one. The list of positive things that we have done over the years is long.
So, has my life been wasted? Absolutely not! My legacy is huge! I am worthy of God’s love, mercy and grace! I am a child of God, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a sister, a daughter, an aunt, and on and on. That is My Legacy and I am truly blessed! Life is wonderful!
Never doubt your worth or your legacy. You are more valuable than you can imagine, and your legacy is huge!
“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.” Psalm 139:13-15
